Brazil’s Petrobras names new board chair, fires marketing chief

Petrobras announced Monday night that its board of directors has elected board member Marcelo Weick Pogliese as the president of the board, effective until the next shareholder meeting.

Marcelo, who also heads the Special Secretariat for Legal Affairs of the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic, is temporarily replacing Bruno Moretti, who was appointed Minister of Planning and Budget.

Petrobras also announced that its board approved the early termination of the mandate of the executive director of logistics, commercialization and markets, Claudio Romeo Schlosser, effective immediately.

The board approved the appointment of Angelica Laureano to the position of executive director of logistics, commercialization and markets, effective April 7, 2026, with a unified term until April 2027.

The executive director of industrial processes and products, William França, will now temporarily and cumulatively perform the activities of the executive director of energy transition and sustainability, a position previously held by Angelica.

According to the newspaper O Globo, the area responsible for a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) auction held last week was under Claudio Schlosser’s supervision. The auction resulted in prices above the reference values set by Petrobras, which caused internal discontent and reactions, including the removal of the responsible manager from the position.

Petrobras, formally known as Petroleo Brasileiro S.A., is a major integrated energy company headquartered in Rio de Janeiro. The state-controlled corporation is a leader in oil production in deep and ultra-deep water and is a significant player in the global energy market. Its decisions on leadership and commercial operations are closely watched by investors and industry analysts for their impact on the company’s strategy and Brazil’s economy.
