Brazil’s Banco Inter gets US branch license
The Inter & Co (B3: INBR32; Nasdaq: INTR) announced on Friday, after the market closed, that its subsidiary Banco Inter has received a license from the Florida Office of Financial Regulation (OFR) to launch and operate a branch in Florida, United States.
In January 2026, the company reported that Banco Inter had received approvals from the Federal Reserve and the OFR to establish the U.S. branch. With the license issued by the OFR, Banco Inter is now authorized to begin operations at the branch.
The U.S. branch will issue its own debit and credit cards directly and offer regulated banking and credit products without relying on third-party partner banks.
“The company intends to migrate its current 5.5 million global account customers to this new structure, a strategic move designed to optimize the funding mix, reduce operational costs, and support its next phase of international growth,” Inter & Co stated in a press release.
The move marks a step forward for the Brazilian digital bank as it seeks to expand its footprint in the United States. The company has been building a customer base of Brazilian expatriates and others interested in cross-border banking services. By operating its own branch, Inter aims to gain more control over its offerings and reduce expenses tied to external banking partners.
The license allows the bank to directly manage deposits and loans in the U.S. market. Inter has not yet specified a start date for the branch’s operations but said it will proceed with the migration of existing customers to the new structure in the coming months.
