Brazil’s Copel posts 694M-reais Q1 net profit, up from year ago

Copel reported a net income of R$694 million for the first quarter of 2026, a 4.4% increase from the same quarter in 2025. The Brazilian energy company released the results on Tuesday, May 5. The recurring net income, which strips out one-time effects, rose 10.7% to R$638.9 million.

The company’s EBITDA reached R$1.90 billion in the January‑March period, up 9.9% year over year. Recurring EBITDA totaled R$1.754 billion, a gain of 16.7% compared with R$1.503 billion in the first quarter of 2025.

Copel said the improvement was driven by better operational performance. In a statement, the company noted that the figures reflect its ability to generate value consistently, supported by solid assets and efficient execution of its operational and commercial strategy.

Net operating revenue on a recurring basis, excluding IFRS effects in the transmission segment as well as non‑recurring items, reached R$6.90 billion in the first quarter, an increase of 19.2% from R$5.79 billion recorded a year earlier. All financial data are in Brazilian reais.

The first‑quarter earnings show that Copel maintained its upward trend after posting a net profit of R$665 million in the same period of 2025. The recurring net income also accelerated, rising at a faster pace than the reported figure. The company’s operating revenue gained momentum, driven by higher energy sales and tariff adjustments that took effect in early 2026, according to the results.
